YouTube Video Search Optimization: 3 Quick Tips
Got a video on YouTube that needs views? It’s quite easy and if you’re a blogger who knows a lot about SEO, you should already know how it works. Just take a look at a couple of my videos (watch this and this). With over thousands of views and counting, I get a few visitors from YouTube everyday. There is a lot of potential traffic that you can get to your from popular social networks like YouTube.
Anyway, three quick tips on how to optimize your videos on YouTube to get on top of their search engine results.
- Have 2-3 keywords in the title. Even just the title of the video can increase the chances of your video being found. Titling a DisneyWorld video “My Visit To DisneyWorld” is better optimized than titling it “My Visit To a Theme Park”.
- Tag, Tag, TAG! If there’s one thing I need to emphasize, social networking sites like YouTube don’t have the tagging/keyword feature for no reason. Use as many tags as you can. Just pretend you’re the person searching for a video. What would you type in the search box?
- Write a keyword-rich description. When you search for a video, notice how keywords are bolded in the search results? They come from the description of the video. It’s like tagging but you’re doing it as you write what the video is about.
Your videos might not get thousands of views from being featured on the home page, but after you optimize them for searching you’ll feel good knowing that people are actually watching what you made.

I have shy’ed away from videos so far because I have not been sure how to promote them properly. Your post will be a great help when I finally take the plunge.
I have been wanting to make videos for years now but I haven’t been able to get over the fear that over comes me when ever a camera or video camera is pointed at me.
I have made steps that hopefully will force me to get over it and make that first video. I have the video camera now and a tripod.
I wasn’t really thinking about creating videos without my voice or my face. That certainly could make it a lot easier.
Hi,
This is a perfect method of marketing a blog. I love this technique of exploiting Youtube. How can I make my own video? Is there any sites are offering these type of services?

Awesome, this is one of the more useful posts I have come across in a while. I knew that YouTube videos can get you decent amounts of traffic if placed effectively, but never really knew how to do this. I might go and try to make an optimized video for this specific purpose. Thanks

Some good points which are equally relevant to generalised SEO for pages. Nice work on the layout. I’m using one of his stock themes on my site: http://www.techviews.co.uk but it needs some work just to finish off.
Keep up the good work.
Some great tips Sly
I’ll be sure to use these in promoting some upcoming things.
