Where Have I Been? NOT Getting the New iPhone 3G…

So it’s been over a week since I posted anything. Where have I been? Well, I’ve been living my life. But I guess you’re wondering why I haven’t been updating Slyvisions lately. The simple reason is (other than living my life) that I’ve been busy trying to get myself an iPhone from eBay. I know, I know, with all this iPhone madness, I must be the 1263423435th person to talk about this subject. But the thing is, I’m not trying to get the new iPhone 3G… I’m trying to get the 1st-gen iPhone (and recently just won an auction on eBay!).

Ok, so why did I “waste” my money on the first iPhone instead of getting the new one? To tell you the truth, the only reason major difference between the two phones is that the 3G iPhone is faster and has GPS capability. But I don’t have a contract with AT&T anyway and don’t plan to have one. What I do plan on doing is unlocking and “jailbreaking” my phone so that I can use it with my current SIM card. So the speed of the phone is already out of the question. GPS? Well, I actually love the GPS feature on the iPhone, but I already have a real GPS that is actually getting reception from a satellite.

The real big deal is the new firmware 2.0 update for the iPhone and iPod Touch. With all the cool applications you can download, the iPhone/iPod Touch can finally be what they were suppose to be in the first place. Some of you might be saying, “Oh I already have a ‘jailbroken’ iPhone/iPod Touch with hundreds of apps that I can download. I don’t need the 2.0 update”. That’s what I had said too at the beginning. But let me tell you something… the 2.0 update looks very promising and I think the apps from the App Store overpowers the apps from a jailbroken iPhone or iPod Touch. Or wait… did you know that you can soon have both an unlocked/jailbroken iPhone WITH the 2.0 update? More on that later.

Even though the App Store does look promising, I don't think its worth giving up the Installer.

I think the App Store lacks much need apps such as MxTube, Customize/summerboard, that one p2p app (very useful!).

Also, Apple doesn't release demos of apps so youre at a loss if you purchase an app that fails to meet expectations.

On the contrary, I am excited to hear that the 2.0 jailbreak will be released soon!

Now, we'll have to see if a warez scene will surface due to overpriced apps :p

Good luck on the phone. The one bad thing I have heard about the 1st generation iphones is that the reception can be a little dodgy in certain areas. But that probably just depends on your location.

Not really an iPhone fan, but I think it's cool that you didn't just follow everyone and bought the new iPhone

There is a very simple rule of being a consumer of technology: don't be first out of the gate. When I was a spokesman for CAA Ontario (affiliate of AAA) we advised motorists never to buy a brand new model vehicle (including complete redesigns of current makes). The first buyers are always guinea pigs testing technology that, for all the testing in labs, had never been put to real-world tests.

iPhone 2G is way better than iPhone 3G if you live outside the U.S.

When I come to think of it, a lot of teens these days love to change phones every now and then. I wonder where did they get the money from. lol
