Many bloggers that have been blogging for a few months or years learn new things each and every day. Whether it’s something positive or negative, new bloggers tend to do something that could teach other bloggers that’s been in it for quite a while now. Here’s what I mean.
New Bloggers Start Blogging to “Make Money Online”- Con
If your focus is about making money online with your blog, you are not going to get anywhere in the next few months. It’s all about the priorities that every blogger should have. Providing your readers with what they want is the most important aspect of blogging. That’s what a blog is isn’t it? Anyway, if you take a look at a new blog, you can easily find out if they are in it for the money or for its readers. First impressions always count. Does the blog’s ads outweigh its content? Does it get updated enough? Are the readers taking part in the blog by commenting or joining your blog communities? These are things that you need to keep in mind if you want a successful blog.
Does the Blogger Have Goals? - Pro
Other than making money online, does the new blogger have goals that they want to achieve? Let’s take a look at the new blogger, Bryan Clark from One Man’s Goal for example. Yes, his goal is to make money online so he can find another source of income on the web. But that’s not where it ends. He plans to do this in only one year. Already, he is achieving this just two months into blogging. How? Well, he actually cares about his readers and actually takes part in the blogosphere. You’ll see him commenting on other blogs (more than 50 a day), emailing other bloggers, participating in blogging discussions like in BlogCatalog, etc. Instead of wasting his time finding ways to make money online or getting traffic, he exposes his blog in the most common ways possible. This will then help with his goal effortlessly.
New Bloggers Read More Than They Write - Pro
I’m not sure if this is true, but new bloggers read more than they write. In order to get started with their blogging they will need to learn more about it so they can actually know what to do and write. So that’s why it’s important to read other blogs even if you think you already know everything there is to blogging. You’ll learn something everyday that you probably never have before.
Here are a few blogs I that I read that you should too:
- Problogger
- Dosh Dosh
- CopyBlogger
- John Chow
- One Man’s Goal
- TechCrunch
- Lifehack.org
- Read/Write Web
- Blogging Tips
- Almost a Billionaire
- and don’t forget Slyvisions!
These are only some blogs that I can think of that are on top of my head. There are more blogs I read and subscribe everyday. So if you think you can’t learn anything from new bloggers, think again. Like I said, there is always something to learn everyday even from the rookies.
If you enjoyed this post, make sure you subscribe to the RSS feed and the

I definitely agree with you statement that you can’t be in it for the money at the beginning. It took me a while to realize that…I thought I could get some instant cash…nope.

Yep totally agree that if you get in it for the money you are going to be sorry rel quick. Blogging is not a get rich quick scam, it takes hard work and a lot of it to make even a small amount of money.
If you don’t have passion for what your blogging about you probably shouldn’t be blogging at all.

Agreed. I find often even the best bloggers take one or two months to really get a blog on track and making money. I think that new bloggers should realise this, as I see a lot of people giving up after a week or two and moving on.

I completely agree, especially with “new blogger read more than they write”. Not that this is a bad thing, but it’s important to reflect on what you read, and apply this to your own blog.

I can attest to it that first-time bloggers should subscribe to other successful blogs and read more than they should write. I made the mistake before and have kept reminding myself not to repeat it again.
Your post, point #3 in particular, serves a reminder to me.

Good one sly…I know, I’m late! But hey, I just found you last week, so I’ve got some catching up to do. I think the content a blogger puts out will show their focus.
If you focus on making money, then every one of, or, a majority of the posts will be a product review, promo, or something.
Readers come to blogs to read, to learn, to get tips, or be entertained. Every once in a while they may want to see what you think of a product, but not everyday. Unless you promote you blog as a product review site, one shouldn’t have the majority of their posts come out as reviews of affiliate products.
Okay, so I am ranting a little bit, but, I have been gathering some good blogs to read, and have been learning quite a bit.
Thanks for your blog, you already know I like it

I think as long as you love what you do it’s easy to get enthusiasm for writing new blog posts and advertising by networking. IMO meeting new people is great, the blog is just an excuse for that

As with everything, when you have been blogging for a bit, it is easy to be set in a fixed mode of mind. Yes, new bloggers hunt down the latest ideas, tend to be more active generally and still full of enthusiasm. I find befriending new bloggers in your field or who want to service the same traffic as you to be one of the best way to get yourself pushing boundaries again
[Reply]
Nice post, great list you have there
I think one of the problems with newbie bloggers is they only read make-money-online related blogs, so think it’s a good idea. I think it’s worth mentioning that if you’re a noob, starting a blog about something you know nothing about is NOT a good idea
BTW, IMO John Chow is an awful blog. Whenever I’ve dropped by he doesn’t make any good points that are really worth reading… just seems to be boosting his own ego a bit. But then, that’s just my opinion
