Video: How To Make Your Site Sticky

Posted on Feb 9, 2008

Over at 45n5, Mark has posted up a helpful video going over how to make your site “sticky”. When he says sticky, he is talking about the bounce rate of your visitors: how long they stay and how frequently they come back. Making a sticky site depends on many things from its structure to the content and sources you provide. As long as you implement these tips, you’ll have people coming back to your site everyday without a problem.

The you tube video was very interesting he offered alot of great tips that everyone can use on their blogs to get visitors to come back and increase their traffic. I myself am going to try some of his tips on my site and see if it will work. I really enjoyed listening to what he had to say and what he offered was making alot of sense. Thanks for sharing this video with us.

The only problem with chatrooms is that you really have to have high traffic or dedicated readers who visit your site at the same time, otherwise the chat as well as the blog will seem dead.
An Ajax Shoutbox might be a good alternative for smaller blogs.

    @ Mark (45n5) - No problem.

@ Chris - I totally agree. It’s also the same for forums. It’s better not to have one than have one with little activity.

    Thanks Sly!

I found these tips very useful. I especially like the idea of creating a resource to make people return to your site such as 45n5’s Top 100 Make Money Online Blog’s.

I am sorry but I have to go on record as saying the quickest way to get me off a site is to see that guys face two inches from the camera trying to be funny. I think he is tremendously annoying.

Thanks for the post Sly. And Mark, thanks for making the vid. It is very informative. I will try and implement some of the tips. I need to make my sites sticky.

As far as I see it with Mark’s style, its what he is saying that counts the most. If you chose to leave before he had even begun you will have missed out on a number of helpful tips.

Cool, I’ll make sure to have a look. Personally, I think the 3 points are: good content, a strong voice and a good template design.
