Using Images for Your Blog
Using the right images for your blog is worth it in the long run; your blog looks cleaner and more professional. But it’s not always obvious what kind of images cater to your article. Here are some guidelines on how to prepare and post the right image for your blog:
- Avoid stock photos. Use more images pertaining directly to your article.
- Resize and sharpen using an image editing tool, such as Adobe Photoshop (A free alternative is GIMP). Never resize using HTML.
- Do not use undersized or over-sized images. Follow the cascade style sheets of your blog layout and make sure everything fits. For aligning images to the right or left, make sure that your content pixel space is wider than your image.
- Upload the images directly to your blog; do not rely on image hosting services (e.g. TinyPic, ImageShack, etc.)
- Do not steal other people’s watermarked photos and crop the watermark out of it.
Watermarking your photos is a great way to make sure no one steals your content. However, it’s important to stylize your watermark so it doesn’t overpower the image or make it unbearable to look at.
