The Sly Guy is Back!
Finally, after a long long wait, the Sly Guy is back!
For those of you that don’t know, the Sly Guy is the SlyVisions cartoon mascot. When I first introduced him, he was simpler and in 2D, created by a promotional tool by Burger King called Simpsonize Me. The results were good, but it was too simple. He needed more interactivity.
So for only under $100, I got the Sly Guy redesigned by a freelance designer. The first thing we worked on was adding some interactivity to the mascot. We kept the sunglasses because…well, it made him sly (no pun intended). Also, you will see that he is now holding a laptop (SlyVisions branded) with some cash coming out of the screen. Why is there cash coming out of it? Well, just think about the slogan of SlyVisions:
The Internet Through An Entrepreneur’s Eyes
Put together a guy with a suit and sunglusses, a laptop + cash to compliment it, and you get a perfectly interactive cartoon mascot.
So what do you guys think of the new Sly Guy?
By the way, I’d like to thank Jay for helping me getting the Sly Guy up at the header. After struggling on doing it myself, Jay had offered to help me out. The cartoon would still be behind the curtains right now if it wasn’t for Jay. Thanks man!

Awesome dude. I like the new Sly a lot better, and NP on the help.
How life-like is he though? Are you wearing a suit right now? Does your real laptop have "SV" on the lid? Is there cash flowing uncontrollably out of the laptop screen?
Let me know!
Cheers!
Jay

Sly!!! I am really feeling the new logo. Well, spent $100 bucks in my book. I didn't really think your last one was bad, but now that you put it next to the new one…yeah this is big step forward.
I want to know like Jay is money really coming out your screen…if so, I need one of those lap tops!!!
Good move!

There's something about logos that gets overlooked onthe web these days - sop much comes out of a box and you've made me think seriously about finding someone who'll take care of mine for $100.

Good questions.
Yes, I'm wearing a suit right now that I wear everyday. I do have a laptop that has SV on it, and yes, cash is always coming out of it.
Nah, just kidding. I wish cash really did come out of my laptop though.

#28 by Web Talk on November 8, 2008 - 12:18 am
I like the new sly guy. I am not into this kind of things anyway because i think that these characters are too used in the Internet. As far as I am concerned I loved the old one. Have you ever thought to draw your own character and have it refined by a freelance designer?

#29 by Sly on November 8, 2008 - 5:57 am
Yeah, I agree that there are a lot of cartoon mascots now on a lot of blogs and other sites. But that's because those bloggers and webmasters know the branding power that it creates.
Yea, I've thought of drawing my own cartoon mascot, but never tried it because I can't draw.
#30 by Simon on November 8, 2008 - 11:09 am
I really like him except to me it looks like his mouth is out of place a little bit.
It's great for the branding though (I still remember you as the guy with the old sly guy)

The fact that you remember me as the Sly Guy is a good thing. It shows that my cartoon mascot branding works.
