The Good News: Linking Out Will NOT Hurt Your Page Rank
Now, I know this had a lot of you concerned. After all, Google’s pretty much big dog these days. if Google suddenly declared you had to kill a live chicken once a week in order to keep your page rank I’d bet a whole lot of us would be out looking for cleavers.
But for those of you who might have been concerned, linking outward really has nothing to do with your page rank. It’s not a zero-sum game–your incoming links to other pages help their page rank, but they don’t specifically hurt yours. Page rank is only measured by the number and quality of INCOMING links.
Though there is one caveat in the sense that, if you’re close in terms of page rank to another page, and you link to that page, you might bump that other page up sufficient to where you’ll drop. But your number of outgoing links isn’t likely to directly affect you by much.
So link away, folks, you’re only helping others and giving you a chance to get links of your own.

well that's right if you linked to good/related site, but if you linked to adult, porn, phising site. i'm sure your PR will drop

Your first point is likely right, your second point possibly debatable. From what I could tell–and I could be wrong–NO outward linking can hurt your page rank.

I'd suggest that webmasters should attempt to focus on sites consistent within their niche; I believe that it strengthens the relationship that Google makes between one's site and it's subject. Furthermore, linking to content that a site's users find valuable is always a good idea.

Thinks for sharing this info. I think if you link to similar sites using your keywords it can help increase your search engine ranking.

I must be one of the small minority of people who does not care about Google or their Page Rank feature.
I don't need a PR number to tell me what blog is worth reading or not.

Page rank is credibility to a lot of people. It's also, if I remember correctly, a measure of the kind of dollars advertising can command.

I was always under the impression that an external link bleeds a little bit of PageRank that could otherwise go to internal pages of your site. So I am not completely sold on what Google claims. Google killed the whole linking structure of the web with their pagerank feature. People simply stopped linking to each other naturally. As a result, links became a less accurate gauge of a site's authority. Now Google is trying to convince people to get back to linking naturally.

I don't know if I fully agree with this. I thought at linking outwards could have some effect. I am sure it really has to do with the sites taht you do this with.

If this is true than I have no idea how my tech blog went from a pr-2 to a zero, and it has over 2,500 links. I did sell a couple of links on that blog but i don't see how Google would even know about that so im not sure what would have caused me to lose the PR.

Thanks for this post. That makes some sense. But I'd like to see what the official word is from Google too although I think they are not going to say anything.

This is indeed very good post, but I’ll confused that how NO-Follow links can play role in increasing the PR? Any suggest please?

Sounds like some good news for me about outgoing links. I use to really put a lot of effort into my page rank but it seems like google is forever changing the rules on page rank and I have started to loose interest.
