Bit.ly gets 3.4 billion clicks per month

Bit.ly, one of the most popular ULR shortening services and the de-facto standard for Twitter, has revealed that the service got over 3.4 billion clicks in March, with over half of the clicks coming from Twitter.

There are many URL shortening services out there these days — hundreds — but what sets Bit.ly apart is that it’s the default service for Twitter. As soon as Twitter replaces it with its own twee.tt, Bit.ly will most certainly see a decrease in usage.

SEO Tip: Use Dashes To Separate Words In a URL

Here’s a quick SEO tip that will make a huge difference when it comes to Google or other search engines crawling your site. I have already told you about implementing keywords in a URL, but there is more to it than just plugging in the words. As you have probably read from the title already, use dashes to separate words in your URLs. This is a must when you’re making search engine-optimized articles and web pages.

According to Matt Cutts, a popular software engineer for Google and SEO expert, using dashes is the best way to separate words in a URL. Using underscores would be the next (but not the best) alternative, while not using anything to separate words would be the worst choice. I have no clue how all of this works, but I do know that it’s a way for search engines to recognize words from another. Just because it’s not alive doesn’t mean it can’t read right?
