What Does WordPress 2.7 Coltrane Bring to the Table?

WordPress is definitely one of the best blogging tools available to mankind. If you’re starting out as an Internet entrepreneur or if your on the way of becoming a really famous one, you should stop and check it out. If you already know it then you should definitely upgrade it to the last version available. WordPress 2.7 has been released about 10 days ago and it’s going to get you a totally new blogging experience.

WordPress 2.7 has been totally redesigned. The Dashboard has been completely revamped and you’ll be quite surprised. The elements of the dashboard have been rearranged in a more friendlier layout. The menu is on the left of the page while in the center you will find all the current stats of your blog: number of posts, number of pages, tags and categories, the number of comments and comments pending, etc. There’s a QuickPress feature on the right where you will be able to quickly write up a draft of a post. Below the center stats the recent comments are displayed. Everything sits logically on that dashboard page.

The comment section is also quite amazing. You can edit comments and manage them better than in previous versions. After all comments are an important marker of your blog’s success. You should pay them a great deal of attention.

One more useful thing is the the Google Gears integration which isn’t that new but it will definitely improve the speed of your blog. Install Gears and have your blog run so much faster than it used to. How it works you ask? Gear will download stuff from your server and you will be able to manage your blogs a lot faster.

As for security, and that’s the most important factor in light of recent events, WordPress 2.7 will make your blog a lot safer. Nothing is perfect out there but you should definitely upgrade your WordPress to the last version. WordPress rolled various security updates earlier this year, like WordPress 2.6.5, so you should definitely stay updated when it comes to your blog’s security. You’ll find that out the hard way if you don’t take care of your blog immediately.

I could be telling you a lot more about WordPress 2.7 but you should try it on for yourself. I can’t think of any reason why it should fit you just fine. But I am just discovering it myself so I’ll keep you posted if stuff doesn’t go according to plan!

SlyVisions Sold For $9,500. What’s Next?

For those of you who’ve been keeping up with the blog, you already know that this blog has been sold at the SitePoint marketplace. Not even two days of the blog auction being put up, it was already bought at the buy-it-now price of (ready?) $9,500.

Now this is the part where I welcome you the new owner of this blog. :)

I present to you, Paul Briggs. Paul is also an entrepeneur that has been making a full time income from the web for over 10 years now. He owns a network of blogs which include ScreenHead.com, DigitalBattle.com, and ScooteringUSA.com. Now I don’t know about you, but I think Paul is going to be a great blogger here on SlyVisions. I believe that he will be able to provide you with some great tips on internet marketing, blogging, and making money online just as much as I did. He’s been working very hard since claiming this blog, so I’m sure he’ll be awesome.

Now a lot of people have been asking me… “what’s next for you Sly?”. All I can say is that I’m not going anywhere. The only thing that happened is that SlyVisions got a new owner. That’s it. I’m still blogging. I’m still Twittering. I’m still networking. In fact, I’ve already got a new blog started (if you can find it, you’re awesome) and another one on the way.

Oh and by the way, I’m still going to stick around here at SlyVisions where I’ll write a (guest) post here and there, so keep an eye on them. I’ll be gone for two weeks, though, starting on December 17th where I’ll be visiting my home country of the Philippines for the first time since coming here to the US. But when I come back, I’m back in business!

Where Have I Been? NOT Getting the New iPhone 3G…

So it’s been over a week since I posted anything. Where have I been? Well, I’ve been living my life. But I guess you’re wondering why I haven’t been updating Slyvisions lately. The simple reason is (other than living my life) that I’ve been busy trying to get myself an iPhone from eBay. I know, I know, with all this iPhone madness, I must be the 1263423435th person to talk about this subject. But the thing is, I’m not trying to get the new iPhone 3G… I’m trying to get the 1st-gen iPhone (and recently just won an auction on eBay!).

Ok, so why did I “waste” my money on the first iPhone instead of getting the new one? To tell you the truth, the only reason major difference between the two phones is that the 3G iPhone is faster and has GPS capability. But I don’t have a contract with AT&T anyway and don’t plan to have one. What I do plan on doing is unlocking and “jailbreaking” my phone so that I can use it with my current SIM card. So the speed of the phone is already out of the question. GPS? Well, I actually love the GPS feature on the iPhone, but I already have a real GPS that is actually getting reception from a satellite.

The real big deal is the new firmware 2.0 update for the iPhone and iPod Touch. With all the cool applications you can download, the iPhone/iPod Touch can finally be what they were suppose to be in the first place. Some of you might be saying, “Oh I already have a ‘jailbroken’ iPhone/iPod Touch with hundreds of apps that I can download. I don’t need the 2.0 update”. That’s what I had said too at the beginning. But let me tell you something… the 2.0 update looks very promising and I think the apps from the App Store overpowers the apps from a jailbroken iPhone or iPod Touch. Or wait… did you know that you can soon have both an unlocked/jailbroken iPhone WITH the 2.0 update? More on that later.

Be Back Soon

Sorry for the lack of updates folks but I am currently on a small vacation with the family in Florida, so I don’t really have much time in my hands. In fact, I actually wrote this post on my iPod Touch. Anyway, I should be back with new updates after a couple of days.

Slyvisions and RSS Competition Update

As some of you have noticed I haven’t updated in quite a few days. Being a student, I always have other priorities that need to be taken care of. In effect I have not had the time to implement the methods and strategies that I planned to do to win the RSS competition between 4 other blogs and bloggers. I’m afraid that I am now waiving the white flag. In my opinion, this competition is now neck and neck between to blogs: The University Kid and Internet Babel. Looking at their RSS subscribers now, The University Kid has a growth of 116 while Internet Babel has a growth of 109. There is still about 4 days left in this competition so let’s just wait and see who ends up winning this whole thing.

Now that I’ve been really busy, I am in need of guest posters (or even permanent contributors). If you’d like to send in a guest post for this blog, just email it to me from the Contact page. You can link back to your own blog with that guest post if you’d like. If you want to be a writer/contributor for the blog, just let me know. Anyway, I’ll try to get back to my regular posting frequency whenever I can.

Google, What Do You Still Want Me To Do?

Google Sucks

So it’s all over the blogosphere now that Google’s PR update has just already been underway. There have been a lot of sites and blogs with increased PR’s, and even some that had it demoted got it back. But I still don’t see any changes here on Slyvisions dot Com. So Google, what do you want me to do?

It seems like I will never get my PR 3 (or higher) back. I really do not want to waste my time talking about this since it’s useless, but the fact that Google hasn’t given me my PR is total BS. I have already stopped selling text links and removed all my “review Slyvisions for a backlink” posts, but what else am I missing? There are hundreds of other bloggers out there that are doing things that should get them penalized, but they’re not!

I hope Matt Cutts can tell me exactly what’s going on here. Emailing Google about a reconsideration from the Webmaster Tools did not seem to work. All I really want is an answer, and I hope to get one soon.

Update: Giving Out 300+ Entrecards (and Counting)

Where has everyone been? Nobody wants Entrecard credits?! Only 4 people has participated so far to try and win 200 Entrecard credits from me as a gift for the holidays. So let me see if this should change everything: I am now going to be giving out ALL my Entrecard credits by the time the giveaway is over (which is less than 48 hours from now). Right now I have over 300 credits, so that means that I should have about 400+ by the deadline. That’s enough to get you a banner on John Cow and John Chow’s site! If that’s still doesn’t satisfy you, then you should just wait until the next few giveaways. I’ll be giving away some $$$. :)
