Sure, the iPad is a “magical” device”, but it also costs $500. India is known for making things cheaper than the rest of the world, including tech.

Now Indian minister Kapil Sibal unveiled a tablet which costs $35. It comes with a 7 inch screen, and features a web browser, PDF reader, office software, media player and a bunch of other stuff you’d expect.

In just over 80 days, Apple’s iPad tablet has sold 3 million units, Apple announced today. The iPad reached 2 million in sales in just two months, and the tablet is expected to top 5 million by year end.

According to Forrester Research, tablet will surpass netbooks in sales in just two years, and in another year, in 2013, they’ll surpass desktop computers sales as well. They expect sales of tablets — including the very popular iPad — to top 3.5 million this year, growing to 20.4 million in 2015.

Verizon earlier today confirmed that it’s working with Google to launch a new tablet device to compete with the iPad. While no details were revealed, it’s pretty safe to assume that the device will run on Android. We expect it to be similarly specced to the iPad, with less restrictions and, obviously, a new category of Android apps.
