What’s In It For Me?

As a blogger and a marketer this is perhaps the most common question that comes to mind when considering partnerships. This is true whether I am the one seeking a partnership or the one being approached. The funny thing is that it is the one question that seems to be at the bottom of the list if it appears at all in the information provided to bloggers.

I know I have been guilty of this, getting so caught up in the idea that I have and being so convinced of how amazing the idea is that I can’t wait to get others involved I forget that I need to look at it from their perspective. How will being involved with my idea help them, what are they going to have to contribute and what is the pay off for them.

At the same time, if I am approached by an organization, another blogger etc. the first thing I ask myself is “why should I do this?”. So the next time you are pitching to a blogger or thinking of reaching out to a company for sponsorship, make sure you answer this question for them early in your pitch.

Team Effort

What to do when you find your blog running out of steam? I don’t mean those odd days when you hit writers block, but when you feel you have written all you can about a topic.  Firstly step back and assess why you are thinking that way, is it because your rate of subscribers has declined, you aren’t getting as many comments?  Look for what is making you think like that.

But if you are convinced that it needs a fresh perspective you could do worse than to partner with some other bloggers.  Remember you are not alone in your struggle and most bloggers still work alone on their blogs.  Sure you can get guest posts but that is an occassional thing that provides you with content on an infrequent basis.

By partnering with other bloggers you can determine the look, feel and style of the blog. You spread the pain and the joy.  As with many other businesses, partnerships are much more likely to survive than sole enterprises.  The great thing about blogs is that you dont actually have to live near each other, not even in the same country. You can setup blogs with multiple authors, editors even administrators. Each of these can access the pages they need from wherever they are.

So instead of continuing your struggle for content and managing your blog alone, especially as it grows, why not reach out to other bloggers and join forces, develop a team and build something really big.
