Facebook releases developer toolkit for Android

Facebook has released a new developer toolkit for Android developers, which will offer tools for use of Fabecooks features, and more importantly, the new SDK is the first to offer tools for the recently launched Open Graph API.

Android passes iPhone in traffic in March


According to AdMob, which released its monthly mobile usage metric, the Android platform has finally surpassed the iPhone in the month of March in the US, while worldwide, the iPhone was still the top mobile. Android has been gaining market share on the iPhone for six straight months, but Apple is expected to fight back with the release of the iPhone 4G this summer.

Google confirms tablet in developement

Many had suspected that Google was developing an Android based tablet to compete with the iPad, and now it’s been confirmed by none other than CEO Eric Schmidt, who said that the company was working with several hardware manufacturers on a new tablet device, which will of course run on Android.

No other details were revealed, but expect en unveiling at one of the Google events over the summer.

30,000 Android apps available, according to Google

Google has announced that its Android App Store now sports 30,000 applications. The Android App Store reached 10,000 apps back in September 2009, so the growth is pretty good — not iPhone-like, but still quite good. IPhone has over 140,000 apps in its store today.

Google recently revealed that over 60,000 Android headsets are being sold every day.

Samsung Eyeing 30% of European Mobile Phone Market

Samsung, already the second largest handset manufacturer in the world, is taking it to the next level. Banking on their aggressive strategies and cool mobile phones, they are eyeing an ambitious 30% of the European market by selling more handsets in Europe this 2010.

Basing it on what they have been doing so far, this goal is certainly achievable. High-end and high-margin phones are part of their plan and the outlook certainly looks bright for Samsung Electronics. They also make Symbian, Android and Windows Mobile smartphones spread throughout the market to date.

Android shipping on 60,000 phones per day

According to Google, the mastermind behind the Android mobile OS, the OS is now shipping on 60,000 devices every single day, from a variety of phone makers.

If you tally those numbers up, you get 5.4 million per quarters, and how’s that compared to Apple? Well, Apple shipped 8.7 million iPhones last quarter, so Android is still quite behind.

Google working on Speech translation for Android

According to an article at TimesOnline, Google is developing speech translation for Android, and not just any speech translation, but speech-to-speech translation — the best kind of translation, if you ask us.

However, Google is noted as saying that speech-to-speech will be possible in a year or two, and will only work “reasonably” in a few years time.
