Sudden Fall In Readership? Maybe You’ve Got A Seasonal Disorder.

If you’ve been a blogger for any length of time, chances are you’ve seen your traffic ebb and flow at certain times of the year.  But if you notice that your traffic falls through the floor at certain times of the year, then it may well represent a significant movement, one you want to stop as much as possible.

It’s entirely possible–and it’s something you want to check–that your traffic may have some seasonal motivations.

For instance, if you run a gadget blog, maybe your traffic spikes around the Christmas shopping season but falls off after the “momdadgrad gift corridor”.  You might think there’s not a lot you can do about that, but now’s the perfect time to give your readers a new reason to come back.

Consider doing different types of pieces in this time, something that your readers wouldn’t ordinarily see and thusly not expect.  If you can give them a whole new reason to come back, then maybe it’s a smart idea.

Good post, I agree that there actual is seasonal traffic in most sites… 99% of my sites have times on the year where the traffic just goes above average, and some even have times where the sites is almost dead..

It is expected that readership will go down at this time of year. Many people are getting ready for the holidays and or visiting relatives during these holidays.

I absolutely hate winter and the grey skies. It's so despressing. Try guided imagery. There are CDs out there for relaxation/mediatation purposes. Get one where the person talks you through the "imagery" Many will talk about peaceful, warm, sunny beaches!

I have my own personal remedies that seem to work just as well. In all my lamps around the house I use light bulbs that simulate natural light, they are made by phillips. If you aren't against going to tanning salons, I've found that going tanning for one week each month helps a lot also.

Really happens, that's true. Sometimes they turn their heads out and find another blog where the trend is hot. But I agree, a good article might draw them back.

Do you like at things like bounce rate or CTR to determine the fall in readership?
