SlyVisions Critiqued At BloggingTips

Posted on Sep 16, 2008

Last week, BloggingTips had featured SlyVisions in its weekly issue of “Reader Blog Critique“. If you don’t know what it is, it’s basically something new that BloggingTips has started doing in which they feature blogs every week to get critiqued by their readers. And because SlyVisions was critiqued in the past week, I have finally decide that it’s time for another SlyVisions theme update.

So what’s going to be in the new change? Well, I’m not sure yet whether I will be keeping this theme and just tweaking it a bit, or getting a whole new theme/design. But as of right now, I’m leaning towards purchasing a premium theme or even a unique theme from either UBD or WooThemes. What I do know is that I need to make some changes as soon as possible. Remember, first impressions are important when it comes to blog design. And according to my critiquers, there needs to be a lot of changes made here.

Anyway, if you want to read the whole post and the critiques, go ahead and visit here. If you have something to say about anything at all in terms of critiquing this blog, go ahead and leave a comment(s) below! The critiquing is technically over at BloggingTips, but it will always be open here!

Wow a premium theme?? That sounds pretty cool. I wish I could afford a premium theme because even though my theme is going pretty strong I would love love love someone to make a premium theme for me where I can get everything I want in a blog theme.
I look forward to the new theme. This current theme isn’t too bad but a new theme would be incredible.

@Ryan: Fancy seeing you here in the number one comment spot. lmao

Hey Sly, I didn’t read the critique yet, but I’ll probably pop back over afterwards. I’m curious to see what they’ve said that’s made you want to make changes though.

Did you have any ’specific” themes in mind yet?

@Ryan McLean - Yeah, I think it’s time to get a premium theme. I’ve always wanted to get one, but never did.

@SuiteJ - I was thinking of getting a unique theme by UBD, but they have never emailed me back yet. They’re probably just busy. But because of that, I’m thinking of getting the Fresh News Theme or LiveWire 2.0 from WooThemes. :)

Premium themes are not that good anymore now as they are also like free themes. Unique are still better compare to premium ones. In unique theme, you are the only one who will use it. Unless, if you will customize the premium theme like what I did to mine, then go for it :D

I have left a comment before in that critique. Anyway, I think there’s something wrong with the link :D check it again :D

@Hussein - Tweaking the theme is exactly what I’m planning to do. By the way, thanks for the heads up about the broken link. It’s fixed now.

@ Sly - Can you afford to get a proffessionally made theme? John Chows cost him $2000. How much do you think yours will cost?

    Hey Sly,

Man, regardless what Bloggingtips says, you have one of coolest themes around the blogosphere.

I can understand what they mean however — completely unique designs are given more attention.

I have a heavily modified Revolution Magazine Theme and I’ve been thinking of hitting up UBD myself.

That is, until I came across dude over at problogdesign.com

He pays a lot of attention to detail, and from what I see, is an excellent Web-designer. Best of all, he only charges $750 for his designs.

Thought you might want to check him out!

And I’m going to see if I get in that Bloggingtips critique thing myself. See what they have to say about my blog. :)

  9. Sly Says:

@Ryan McLean - That’s exactly why I’m leaning toward buying just a premium theme then customizing it to make it unique enough. I don’t really need a unique theme right now, and I surely don’t need to pay $$$$$ just to get one.

@Luis Gross - Thanks for the compliment Luis. I’ve really tried to customize the theme so that it will look different from others, but unfortunately, it still has some flaws. I like what you’ve done to your Revolution theme, and I’m probably going to get a premium theme as well and just customize it.

And yes, go ahead and submit your blog to BloggingTips for a critique. I’m sure you’ll find some great tips from the critiques.

    Sly,

I haven’t checked the review yet, but I like your look as well. Having a unique theme has to be great, but it is going to cost and cost have to be justified. How long is it going to take that theme to pay for itself? Will you be able to upload the theme and start making additional money? Maybe not.

However, I will say that the $750 investment doesn’t sound bad. You could view this as a challenge and set a goal to make the $750 to modify your theme.

It’s amazing what people can come up with when they are properly motivated. Besides, if you made $150 in 2 days, then you can surely put a string of those together and have your theme by November with some good moves.

Anyway, the content is still that sweet juice. Thanks for the cup!
