Is this really worth it for all niche? I continue to hear and see that it's all about an email list, but it's very very hard to get this one going. Do you have any suggestions?

Kelli–value is subjective. You may determine it has value, your readership may not. Hit them with that email too often, and if they don’t see the value, you’ll alienate them. It’s a very careful balance to be struck.

Yes that balance is difficult to achieve. If you can manage it though, it is extremely profitable. If you can get your readers' e-mail addresses and regularly contact them respectfully, you are opening up a new way to reach those people. If you keep reminding them about your blog, they are much more willing to become regular readers and keep coming back. Just because some people spam their mailing lists, it does not mean that you can't create a quality newsletter that is actually worth subscribing to.
