Share Your Link - But Make it Short

When you want to promote your blog or even your latest post, especially on a social media site its always a good idea to shorten the URL to something that doesn’t take a lot of space. This has become increasingly popular with tools like Twitter where you are limited by the system to the number of characters a message can contain. It is also a good practice to use in emails etc, the reason being your link might end up being “word wrapped” and become broken rendering it useless.

There are over 90 URL shorteners out there, so which one should you use?  Well the most obvious answer for that is which ones do you see your peers use most? The second thing to look for from a URL shortening service is statistics. The great thing about using a link that has been shortened is it becomes very trackable. For that reason I like services like TweetBurner and HootSuite. While both of these are primarily aimed at users of Twitter they provide an effective URL shortening service and they provide great stats about how many people clicked the link and also who reused the link.

What URL service do you use?

as most of you know, facebook changed their layout yet again this week. If I wanted to post a link using the old version I would just go to my profile and under status message it would say "Share Link". Now, that option has disappeared. Does anyone know how to post a link on the new facebook? Detaled instructions are appreciated.

Sharing links on twitter is risky because if you do it too much then people will just start to ignore them. But if you are posting entertaining posts and ones that your followers would be interested in then definately use one of the shortening and expect some nice traffic :D

The option is still there, you just have to click in the box that says "What's on Your Mind" it will then reveal all the options including "Share Link".
