I’ve been wondering about this for a very long time now. With all the make-money-online blogs out there, do they all really make money online? And do they actually make money online like they claim? Or is the blog just a scam? If you have a blog (any type of blog, not just MMO), tell me… you started the blog because you wanted to share your tips and journey to making money online right? And not because you wanted to make money FROM the blog, correct?
Well, here’s a poll for you guys and gals that make money online with a blog (if you even make money online). Do you have other sources of income online? Or is this blog your source of hope? So let’s say you have a blog right now that makes at least, say, $20/month. If that blog had been taken away from you, would you have other ways to make you some money? Let us know by taking this poll below and make sure to also leave some comments.

I hear ya dude! Yeah man, my blog is the documentation of my journey and making money online elsewhere. If the blog brings in some cash…that’s even better, but I didn’t start it as the main source.
I have other blogs that are setup specifically to bring in revenue, but my main blog is not. I earn from it, but that’s not the main goal of it.

I don’t make a penny from our blog, atleast not intentionally. Yes I do plan to start providing ad space for sale among other things..but the majority of what little money I’ve made online has been from affiliate marketing, niche websites, and article marketing..

Another thing, there’s no time for posers.. I think people are smart enough to know whether someone is embellishing their claims of super stardom… especially in the blogosphere.
Be honest, be yourself, and success will come.

I’m in the same boat as Joe and Elijah. My blog’s goal is to document my experiences in making money online. Really I am only interested in making enough from my blog to cover hosting costs for it but even if I don’t make enough it doesn’t matter.
I am going to be keeping my blog for a long time, that way I can look back and see how far I have come.

I’ve been making my living from online activities since roughly 1997. I first started out designing websites which I still do, and I then began affiliate marketing as a sideline which I’m still doing today. Although, I have recently started a blog so we’ll see where that leads. I’m very grateful that I can make a living online, in whatever capacity, and hopefully this form of money making will continue far into the future for all of us. Thanks for the Poll and the Blog…I’m enjoying reading what you have to say. Take care and all the best.

I don’t know if my blog is an MMO blog or not, but I have a lot in common with Lyle above. I’ve been making a full time living through various online activities since 2000 - with part-time stuff since 1997.
In the beginning, it was web/graphic design, and full time eBay sales (collectibles). I have a few good friends in the adult industry and starting in 2004, I had several successful sites promoting adult memberships. In 2008, I decided to take a shot at 100% mainstream and cashed out of adult.
My blog is currently for fun, and used to network with you crazy cats. So far, I have only “de-monetized” my blog by giving away money instead of making it. lol
My income still comes from various streams right now, although my blog has only mentioned the extra chunks of $$ I make on flips.
In regards to MMO blogs being “real”, I care more about whether or not the author is interesting and if the blog’s content is good. I couldn’t care less how much the check is that they’re holding up under their chin for the camera. lol
If they give me any info or ideas at all that helps MY business make money, that’s what matters to me.
Cheers!
Jay

Glad to see that you guys are actually making real money without your mainstream blog.
@lyle robinson and @Suite J - So you guys go waaaayyy back huh? I really wish I could go back in time and live in those times. The first thing I’d do is make YouTube before anyone else does.
Oh and Jay, yeah I’m the same. I like a blog because of its content and content alone. If they can keep me reading, I usually subscribe to it without a problem.

@Sly - LOL - but then you’d be old like me. However, if you owned YouTube, it’d be worth it I guess.
I wish I could go back now. I’d buy a lot more domains.

@SuiteJ - Yeah. I think I know what domains you would buy, so I’d try to get them before you do!
[Threaded Reply]
@Sly - Ha, you know do you? It wouldn’t be SuiteJ.com I’ll tell you that! It’s funny, this post actually made me look up some old domains I used on WayBack Machine…I might have to add that to a post sometime.
I sold domains a few times back then, but nothing spectacular. They were $70 for registration at the time, and I sold a few on eBay for 700-800 range. Plus, back then, $1000 USD was $1500 CDN, so the exchange on my online $$ was a nice bonus. lol

@Sly - Yeah…it was a great time…I remember hearing fantastic stories of people throwing up sites, tossing a few banners on them and the cash would just roll in. The one problem, like everything, is that I wasn’t aware of how “large” things could get and so I didn’t dabble too much in AM at the time. I wish I had but I’m making up for it now so all is good…:)
@SuiteJ - I never dabbled in the Adult industry but I always heard stories about guys making crappy Adult Check and Cyberage sites and just making oodles of money with subscription sales and site upsells. What a time…:) Oh and btw, I’m enjoying your site…especially your Sunday Sacrifice…:) Take care and all the best both of you.

@SuiteJ - That’s funny because I was also looking up sites on the WayBack Machine. It’s cool how sites back then were so simple and now they’re just huge money-makers.
@lyle robinson - Nobody really knew the potential of the internet back then. Now it’s the opposite. Everyone out there knows EXACTLY how the internet can benefit them and is taking advantage of it. I guess we’re one of those people now.
@Gerri - I see. Yeah selling things at auctions is the old school way of making money online, but it surely is still one of the best. Oh, and it’s pretty fun too.

Sly,
Good question. I make all of my money, which isn’t’ much, away from my blog. I have had it for quite some time and just never really know what to do with it. This past week, I just had a small clue and will begin putting it to action.
I make most of my money through one particular site at the moment. Through reading sites like yours, Normal Joe, Suite J, and many more I have become away of many of the various ways you can make money online.
More importantly, I have finally started acting on these lessons. Action is the key and I now have it and running.
Matter of fact, I have to go because I have act on some recent information I attained.
LOL!

My blog is the journey of me trying to make money online. I make money through my main blog and through other niche websites which I sell advertising on and I also run a newsletter which I make money on. Great poll tough sly…keep up the good work

I never believed in relying on ONLY one source for income. And although, I do make money from my main blog, I actually make more with other online stuff.
Oh, and I think it’s kinda funny that a majority voted for the first option because if they make $0.10 from anywhere else, they think they got “mad skills” lol!

I make money online but I wouldn’t consider it a profit if I compare it to the time I’ve invested. So, I need a regular job for a real paycheck but blogging is more of a hobby so the additional pennies that get thrown my way are helpful like the tip jar for a piano player.
