Make Firefox Even Faster With Vacuum Places
I’ve been noticing a slowdown with my Mozilla Firefox browser. Initially, I assumed that it was due to an overload of add-ons, so I decided to weed some out. But, the startup time was still not satisfactory. So, I started doing some research and stumbled upon an extension known as Vacuum Places Improved.
The add-on defragments your browser’s “Places” database, which contains all of your bookmarks and history. It claims to reduce the startup time of your browser and reduce any text input lag in the address bar. Even automatic cleaning is included.
So far, it seems to be working pretty nicely and I have no complaints. Try it out and see how it affects your browsing experience.

Mine's currently using 40% of my CPU - I don't have an old PC so I don't understand it.

My Firefox is slow as well. Startup time is increasing day by day. I will try this trick. I hope that it will work.
Thanks Gibran.

Thanks for the tip. Recently my firefox browser isnt opening - its set as my default browser so it sometimes opens automativally when i open links in pdf documents etc but when i start it up from the desktop - nothing. I know its running in the background (i can see it on my running applications window) but i just cant get it to run - once i sort it out this sounds like a good add-on - cheers!

Make sure your Firefox is updated to the latest version. Also, remove any add-ons that you feel are unnecessary.
Cheers.
