Letting Go Of Baby

How protective are you of your blog? As a writer it can be all to easy to become emotionally invested in your blog both as a creative piece and as a part of who you are.

But your blog isn’t you, the success or failure doesn’t define who you are. Likewise your readers won’t always like what you write - You can’t please all the people all the time - holds true for bloggers just as it does for everyone else providing some form of creative experience.

Remember to be realistic about your goals for your blog. Sure everyone would like to have a Page Rank of 10 and be at the top of Alexa’s rankings but that isn’t going to happen overnight, if it ever happens.  Think about what you can realistically achieve then break those goals down into smaller steps, weekly, monthly, quarterly, annually.  Start meeting those smaller goals and the bigger ones will take care of themselves and if they don’t? Well then learn from the experience, move on, grow and try something different.

I think it really depends on what you use your blog for. If its for fun and a hobby its not a big deal. But if you are using it for business, your neuroticism should be in proprotion to how important the blog is to the business.

This is very true, you can't please everyone but if people do like your blog they will come back and be loyal readers. I agree having smaller goals will be better than having one big one because than you can feel like you have accomplished something once you have reached those smaller goals

It's a tough call. You both need to recognize that success takes time, but you also need to be able to see when something's not working and pull the plug out. It's all a balancing act as you try and evaluate if the problem is just it needs time to grow, or if its reaching a dead end.

    Hi sly,

I have to agree with this wholeheartedly. A lot of bloggers forget that a person's blog in most cases shouldn't be considered universal. Some people will like you and other won't. No biggie…you get over it and move on…
