How to Password-Protect Windows PC Folders

Here’s a quick tip on how to protect your Windows files and folders with a password. Doing this will keep certain files away from the wrong hands by creating a password-protected folder.

  1. Right-click anywhere on the desktop, select New > Compressed (zipped) Folder.
  2. Go ahead and change the name of the folder to anything you want.
  3. Open the folder. Drag all the files or folders you want to password-protect into the compressed folder you have just made. Keep in mind: left-click dragging COPIES the files, and right-click dragging MOVES them. You can also just delete the original files after copying them.
  4. After you have all the necessary files, select File > Add Password on the compressed folder. Set the password and that’s it!

Anybody that tries to open the folder will have to enter in the password you have set for it! If you decide to remove the password just select File > Remove Password.

Funny, I never noticed it said folder. I had always used it to make a quick zip file to send in emails, etc.
