How Fast Is Your Blog? Check It Here.

We’ve all been there at least once–we’re going to check out our favorite blog, and they’ve done some kind of massive redesign on the stupid thing, so suddenly we can’t check out what we wanted to near as fast as we’d hoped.  What happens after that?  Do you find yourself shrugging and carrying on?  Or do you leave and not come back any time soon?

Information is all over the web, so if you want to be people’s primary source, you’ve got to do two important things: get there firstest with the mostest.  I know, two of those aren’t technically words, but it’s okay–these portmanteaus will actually help you remember what we’re dealing with.

“With the mostest” is clear enough.  As many exclusives and big news bits as you can find should go into your posts on a regular basis.  Easier said than done sometimes, I know, but still.

“Get there firstest” is the part you may be able to fix right now.  Over on PingdomTools.com, you can find out if your web site is putting up any major speed bumps that might make it tough to access your site.  Big animated gifs, banner ads, even your CSS might be slowing your readers down, and with these tools, you can find out if your information is getting through to your readers in the fastest possible fashion.

Remember, it’s not enough to be good if everyone else is beating you to the punches.
