Google, What Do You Want Me To Do?

Google has just taken away my PageRank! From a PR of 3 to a 2, now it is 0. I know that I should not care about it anymore because it’s pretty much useless, but I’m not letting them do anything without any explanation! Google, what do you want me to do?!

Google surrender

Sites like Search Engine Guide has tried to send a message to Google by posting up a banner like you see above. 5xmom also posted the banner and even wrote herself a little testament.

For those who don’t know yet, Google is also penalizing sites that mention the words PayPerPost, PPP, PayU2Blog, etc. on their blog posts. So after penalizing those who sell text links, now Google is attacking again with this? I really can’t say anything about this. There are only two things I can do right now: listen, or risk getting more penalized. What am I suppose to do???

To listen to Google, here are my options:

  • Add no-follow to text-link advertisements (done)
  • Add no-follow to links in sponsored posts
  • Remove all my Review-Slyvisions-for-a-link posts (in progress)
  • and some other stupid, and time-consuming “solutions”

The question is: should I? Should I forget about Google and the risk of getting penalized (more) by Google because I don’t listen? Or should I do what I have always done and do what I want to do with my blog without caring what Google does at all? I already got my PR taken away (for now), so will I get back my PR if I listen to what they say?

Whatever it is I do, all I know is that I will do what I think is right to keep this blog up and running. If that means to surrender to Google, then I will.

Holy crap that’s insane. What if you write something bad about pay per click. Then google wouldn’t understand the difference and would penalize you again.

  2. A Blog about Nothing Says:

Are you Google’s pet or are you your own? Decide for yourself what makes more sense, but I’d say you’ve lost your mind if you just roll over for the whims of Google. Is Google really *that* valuable and important to the welfare of your blog?

@ A Blog About Nothing- That’s the problem. If I want to make some money from this blog, there are some things in which I have to rely on Google on. One thing is traffic, but that’s just part of the story. It’s a really hard thing to think about.

If you are looking for money traffic is the key… and google search engine is the number 1 !!! everyone use it !! over 60% of the market.. can you live without google yes but you need to pay the price !! are you ready to spend a lot of money in advertising .. do you think if you were selling your blog you will get a nice price…?? do you feel you have the brand name to create a self viral marketing… do you have have the network …

But at the end you pay for your domain and more so this is your property do what ever you want ..

  6. Michael Says:

Did you know that when Google first started, it talked about selling it’s search engine for just 1 million dollars!

  7. Lisa Says:

You have to do what is right for you. For me, I am continuing to do what I have always been doing.

  8. Grace Says:

It’s really hard for people trying to make money on their sites. I think what google is doing is so unfair. You don’t do PPP and your page rank is high, high page rank means lots of opportunities to make money thru PPP, you do a bazillion of reviews and google penalizes you, you get penalized and your PPP money making is done then you start the loop again. It’s a vicious cycle!

  9. Michael Says:

I don’t intend to make money online, I just blog for fun!

  10. Critical Critic Says:

How are your SERPs for your keywords? Did you notice a change in them as well? A change in PR shouldn’t affect your keyword positioning …

  11. Qtpies7~ Says:

I did some changes, hoping that google will give me my rank back next crawl, but the only way to keep it is to stop getting paid. And I don’t want to stop that. But I can’t get good pay without googles rank. They don’t care about people, just their bottom line.
If I was bigger and could get advertisers other ways, I would, but I haven’t found that way yet. So my pr3 was kissed goodbye.

  12. Grace Says:

I think google should explain why they are doing what they are doing!Punishing people for TLA and PPP is just cruel.

  13. Michael Says:

They have got that banner on John Chow’s blog and it confused some people

  14. Laura Says:

First, thanks for stopping by my blog!

This is, ultimately, a personal preference. I have read so many articles lately on how PR isn’t going to matter any longer; when that will happen; don’t know? But you may want to ask yourself if it is really worth the hassle? I was, at first hung up on page rank and then realized I probably won’t ever be able to satisfy Google, so I am concentrating on trying to make my content fun, family friendls (for the most part..hehe) and something people would enjoy reading.

The traffic flows when you meet those criteria. It looks as though you may have pretty good traffic; having a higher page rank isn’t going to change that.

Make a list of pros/cons and see which is longer. I know it seems silly, but it works. :)
