First Impressions Lead To a Lasting Loyal Readership

First impressions are everything for a blog. Whenever a new visitor visits your blog for the first time, you always want them to come back and make them loyal readers. This is very important for a successful blog.

After a couple of my posts was featured on ProBlogger, I had hundreds and hundreds of new visitors that have probably never heard of this site. Surely, after stumbling upon this ever-growing Slyvisions.com, there was no doubt that I just gave myself new and loyal readers. Keeping them to come back though is the key. Here are some tips you might want to keep in mind.

  • Is your site worth coming back to? Like I have explained after giving tips for writing great content, it is the best way to guarantee yourself that your readers will come back. Provide them with what they want, and you’ll get what you want in return.
  • Design. If your site is not “readable” in every aspect, don’t expect your readers to come back. Make it look presentable. Remember, simplicity is always the best choice. Too much ads, widgets, or any uneccessary items will keep readers away.
  • Make it fun. Don’t just write…entertain! Yes, your readers like what they read on your blog, but if you do something different like hosting a contest or posting videos that would entertain them, you’re making your blog more than what it is. Take a look at my Videos category for example.
  • Connect With Your Readers. Having a connection with your readers is something that should be done with every blogger. Whether you have a Contact page or replying to comments on your blog, a communication with your readers lets them know you care about their existence.

The key to a successful blog is not getting more readers, but to provide them with what they came to your site to see. Leaving a good first impression will lead to a lasting and loyal readership.

First impressions are truly more important than most people think. Everyone says that content is king but the first things people see are generally blog design, color scheme, ad crowding, and more. If those aren’t good, then say goodbye to your visitors!

I think its very important not only to write quality content about the topic of your website… but also to captivate the reader at the same time. There is no point writing a book that isn’t interesting to read but has all the answers… I am sure that a book with the same answers or even less answers with more entertainment, humor, personality will always sell more. The same can be applied online.

Yes, I for one will click away if the site is cluttered with ads and widgets. I place more importance on site design than any other factors.

If you write good contents but design is not your cup of tea, choose a theme that is simple and minimal that will not draw away your readers’ attention. I wonder why many still fail to realize this..

  11. Proxy Says:

For me the key is the design and layout of the site, if it is full of adverts and too difficult to read (bad combination of colors) then I tend to click away quite quickly. Then I look at the content and if it is of interest to me, I usually stick around.
