Finding businesses to advertise on your blog is, in my opinion preferable to simply pulling a feed from Adsense, the combination of the two is a great way to generate revenue, but if you can only dedicate enough space to have one or the other I prefer businesses that you have a relationship with over ones you don’t.

Why is this? Well typically if you develop a relationship with them they will stay with you longer and help you weather the storms such as the current economic climate.  So how do you go about finding them?

The first place to start is those people with whom you have already done business, the designer who created your logo, the hosting company for your blog, the printer who prints your business cards.  Then widen the net, local businesses, especially those associated with your niche or those that provide services that would be relevant to your readers.

Finally, spread the net even wider to include your online social network, look for other small businesses that would benefit from whatever traffic your site can send them. These are all good candidates for advertising with you.
