Dealing With Adblock

Adblock Plus is an add-on for Mozilla Firefox that removes all ads from the Internet. That means no ads at all. Including both Flash and text-based ads. It works by blacklisting certain URLs and their subdirectories using a wildcard.

For a web surfer, Adblock Plus makes browsing faster, simpler, and streamlined. As for webmasters who are looking for an income, it doesn’t exactly help. Some sites have even banned visitors who use AdBlock from accessing their site.

However, the way to deal with Adblock is not by blocking access, but by encouraging growth. The people who use AdBlock are the people who are actually paying attention to the content of the site, and will return daily if you have good content. These are web users that are fully aware of their actions and won’t click the ads in the first place.

I will admit that I am an AdBlock Plus user. But I do have exceptions: if I find a site that I like and find myself revisiting it all the time, I will remove it from my blacklist. I have a number of sites that still show ads.

You can always try to work around ways to bypass AdBlock Plus, but those ads will always be blocked anyways, and won’t be clicked on due to the high awareness of the web savvy reader. Concentrate on content and try your best to make your blog less of a money-maker and more of an actual blog. This way, you will get money in the long run due to your inevitable success.
