Just like my other post on how to disable iTunes from popping up when your iPod is connected, this tip is something that everyone should already know. Anyway, people out there have iTunes but don’t know how to change the filetypes of their songs. Why would you want to change the default filetype of AAC (.m4a) to something else like MP3 or WAV, even though your iPod can already play those multiple formats? Answer: you might have some other digital music players that might not be able to play AAC files like your CD player for example. This is where the conversion helps. Easily convert your music within iTunes for quick compatibility for other music players other than your iPod. Here’s how to do it (if you don’t know how yet).
First, go to your iTunes preferences. Then click the “Advanced” tab…

In the sub-tabs, select “Importing”…

Choose the desired format…

Finally, on your music library right click the song/songs you want to convert by right clicking them, then choosing “Convert to…”. Depending on what you chose back in the Preferences, the filetype will show after “Convert to”. In this case it is AAC (.m4a).

Ir is good to be able to convert your music into different formats and not to be stick with Apple’s default which cannot be played on a lot of devices.
