Sonos raises $25 million

Sonos, makers of home theater solutions (and some good ones, too), has announced that they’ve raised $25 million in Venture Capital from Index Ventures Partners, bringing the total funding Sonos has got to $65 million.

The company makes home theater and music solutions, and have recently launched an iPhone application where users can control their home theaters from their phones.

Apple iPad available for pre-order

Apple has finally opened the gates for pre-ordering their upcoming tablet, iPad. The new device, which pretty much works as a much larger iPhone and is build on the same platform, retails from $500. And while all iPhone apps will be compatible with the iPad, the new device will give media publishers a new platform to distribute their magazines, and, especially ebooks.

The iPad will ship to customers on April 3.

Lucid Imagination Raises $10 Million in Series B funding

Lucid Imagination has announced that the company has raised $10 million in a Series B round of VC funding from Shasta Ventures with Granite Ventures, and Walden International.

Lucid was launched in 2005 and offers a search technology based on open source platforms. Its product is used at Zappos, Nike and Netflix, among others. The latest round of funding brings the total amount to $18 million.

Evri Acquires Radar Networks

Search engine Evri has acquired competitor Radar Networks, after Radar Networks has been trying to find a buyer for the past few months. Both companies are funded by Vulcan Capital, and while the price for the acquisition wasn’t revealed, it’s suspected to be an equity-based transaction, meaning little or no cash changed hands. radar Networks is mostly known for making Twine, a semantic web application.

UK’s Autoquake raises £6m

Autoquake, the online used car dealer in the United Kingdom, has announced that they’ve secured £6 million in Venture Capital from Accel Partners and Highland Capital Partners, bringing Autoquake’s total funding to £20 million, or $30 million USD.

Autoquake launched in 2005 and is one of the leading online used car retailers, where it usually acquires fleets of used cars from corporations such as rental agencies, and sells them in virtual showrooms. They expect to sell 15,000 cars in 2010.

Chip-firm Tilera raises $25 million

Tilera, which develops multi-core computer chips, has revealed that the company has raised $25 million in a series C VC round, led by chip-giants Broadcom Corporation, Quanta Computers and NTT Financing. Tilera was founded in 2004, and focuses on multi-core chips for the embedded markets, and it has its own software development wing as well. Tilera has raised a total of $64 million so far.

Yelp faces another extortion lawsuit

Last month we reported how online review site Yelp was hit with an extortion class action lawsuit alleging that Yelp wanted users to pay if they wanted negative reviews removed, and now, Yelp has been hit with another lawsuit of same caliber.

Yelp has responded by saying the allegations are “meritless” and that it’s a “copy cat” suit, where lawyers are looking to get money out of the deal.

Yahoo Contacts adds Facebook connect

Yahoo’s popular Contacts service has added Facebook connect as a standard feature now, and Facebook connect will almost take over the whole process now, with easy import of friends and their details from Facebook.

Last month, Yahoo added Twitter support as well, and we’ll see how much else they’re going to integrate in their systems.
