Poll Results: 36% Say Most Of Their Traffic Come From Search Engines

About a couple months ago, I posted up a poll asking you and other readers what your site’s leading source of traffic is. The poll has been running for a while now, but I forgot to put it up on the sidebar for a few weeks. 101 votes should be enough to get significant numbers and results. So here it is below.

Pie Poll

Graph traffic poll

Out of this 101, 36% of you said that your main source of traffic came from search engines and I would guess that it was mostly from Google. Meanwhile, referral traffic came in second with 29% of all votes. Just to reiterate, this category of refferal traffic is composed of traffic you get from other sites that include other blogs, StumbleUpon, social media, forums, etc. Oh, and as you can see, nobody that participated in this poll uses PPC marketing to promote their blog (or other type of sites). Then there are those who polled “Other”. Not exactly sure what that would be, but I guess that’s my mistake for putting it up as an option.

What Some Of You Said

Here’s what a few of you said from the original post.

Wayne Liew -

Since I enjoyed bloghopping, my traffic will be largely from other blogs resulting from the links of my comments and also my MyBlogLog avatar.

Blacksky -

I really try to have the more sources possible… from search engine to social bookmarking but google search engine seems the one that give me the highest conversion . and yahoo search engine is almost at 100% of conversion… pretty sad that nobody use it. Mybloglog is good to spread the word.

Doctorfox -

I get a few from Google and Stumble upon, but the most comes from the Software industry where people want to download my software for free. Also I think there should be a difference between regular traffic and targeted traffic.

So What Can This Poll Teach Us?

Well, here’s the thing. I did expect the search engine category to top other sources of traffic in this survey, but it’s not the one I wanted to see. Instead, I would have loved to see the referral category to top all the rest. Why? Well, if you were one of those people who polled for referral traffic, I would like to let you know that you are a very good internet marketer. Being a good internet marketer shows that your site can live without Google and other search engines. To those that did poll for search engines as their leading source of traffic, I’m afraid to say that you will have a hard time having a successful online business whether it’s your blog or any other type of site. Just imagine that Google never existed. You’re site’s income would never exist too.

Poll: What Is Your Site’s Leading Source Of Traffic?

I think it’s time for another poll. The last one asked you which blog redesign you liked better between ProBlogger and John Chow dot Com. This one is about your blog/site’s traffic, and by now you should already know what the question is. So what is your site’s leading source of traffic? Do you rely heavily upon Google? Or are you a good internet marketer? Let us know by taking taking this poll and make sure to leave comments as well!

Poll Results: John Chow Vs. ProBlogger

The results are in! Over 2 weeks ago, I have asked you, my readers, who you think had the better blog redesign between John Chow dot Com and ProBlogger. Although I wrote the article on August 24, I have only added the poll survey sometime in September. I could have gotten more reader votes but I made the mistake off putting the poll up too late. So instead of just putting up the results of the poll, I’ll also add some of your comments!

John Chow, ProBlogger, Web Design, Design

As you can see, ProBlogger has topped John Chow dot Com by 10 votes, and 7 said they liked both blog designs. Why did most people like ProBlogger’s new design better? Well, here are some of your comments.

Michael from CyberSurge said:

I really don’t like John Chows site redesign. I hated the old one and I hate the new one just as much, I think he needs to stop putting expensive cars in his header, his blog doesn’t talk about cars so just get rid of it. ProBlogger on the other hand look great, the new logo is awesome and the layout is great, I love how the comments look.

Jon from FreeLance Folder said:

I have to say John’s design is great (Nate did an awesome job on this one, and also on the new Shoemoney) but I prefer Darren’s design, it innovates more, looks more like a “portal” than “another blog”, makes it stand out from the crowd more.

Shona from Rich Minx said:

I think they’re both better than they were but I prefer ProBlogger’s new look - with JC now you have to scroll down now past that car image etc to read the content.

Missy from Groovy Vegetarian said:

Definitely ProBlogger has done a much better job. I haven’t been to Chow’s blog since the redesign but from your screenshot, it looks quite cluttered and unsightly.

Well, it seems like most people liked ProBlogger better because it was cleaner and better organized. I agree that John Chow’s site has so much ads that it takes over his blog. And what’s up with the car headers?!

By the way, the survey widget is still going to be kept active, but the poll and results ended today. You can also check out what others have said in the article. Thanks for the votes everyone! I am going to have another poll soon (and a blog contest!) so make sure to check back on that.

Better Redesign: John Chow or ProBlogger?

By now you should know what I’m talking about. After redesigning their blogs, John Chow and Darren Rowse seems to have attracted more readers and made them feel more comfortable in their site. But which blog do you think had the better redesigning? You don’t have to base it on anything; so just let us know which blog’s design you like better and why.

Speaking of redesigning, I feel that this site needs a make-over too so I’m in the process of tweaking Slyvisions with a bit of changing. So expect a new look here in a couple or days. I might even finish it in the next few hours!
