Apple reveals iTunes 10, includes music social network “Ping”

Yesterday Apple didn’t just unveil a bunch of new iPods, they also unveiled the sparkling new iTunes 10, which includes a social network for music, one they call “Ping”, where artists and bands can come together, talk music, follow each other and what not. It’s a sort of MySpace/Last.FM/Twitter things, and from the looks of it, seems pretty decent. We’ll have to wait and see how it fares against its competitors.

According to a report from NPD, which tracks the video game business, a stunning 56 million Americans are and have played playing web-based social games. That’s a huge number, especially considering that social games have only taken off during the last few years. Users bought $2.2 billion worth of online goods last year, and NPD expects that number to top $6 billion in 2013.

According to eMarketer, ad sales on Facebook will reach a massive $1.3 billion dollars this year, compared to “just” $665 million in 2009. EMarketer also reports that Facebook rival MySpace’s ad sales will decline this year from $400 million in 2009 to $347 million.
