30,000 Android apps available, according to Google

Google has announced that its Android App Store now sports 30,000 applications. The Android App Store reached 10,000 apps back in September 2009, so the growth is pretty good — not iPhone-like, but still quite good. IPhone has over 140,000 apps in its store today.

Google recently revealed that over 60,000 Android headsets are being sold every day.

Google Optimizing Gmail?

Is Gmail slow for you? Not all people may think so but just the same, Google is working on the issue to try and speed up its free email service. Normally the people who have tons of mail reaching the 100% limit would be having this problem.

And if you consider the trend of other free web email services, a hunch could be that Google may be increasing the allocation. Either that or a new script is on the way!

Facebook most popular site in U.S. according to Hitwise

Tracking and estimating corrects web statistics isn’t particularly easy, there are plenty of trackers — Compete, Alexa, Hitwise — each with their own systems and their own rankings. Google.com has long been known as the most visited site in the US, but now, according to Hitwise, it’s been pushed to second place, with Facebook now at the top spot. Yahoo Mail is third and Yahoo is fourth.

Google launches Google Apps Marketplace

After being rumored for a while, Google has launched its Google Apps Marketplace, where developers can sell and distribute their web-apps. Google offers APIs for developers to offer their cloud-based apps in the store.

Google Aps has over 25 million users, and it offers app makers a decent deal: 80/20 revenue split, where Google keeps 20% (on the Android, Google keeps 30%), + a one time fee of $100 to enroll on the program.

Google Maps Helps Man Get a Job

For all the unemployed people out there, Google Maps may be of assistance to you. Ed Hamilton apparently put his resume on Google Maps and eventually landed a job for his efforts. On whether it was an experiment or done on purpose is practically futile at this stage.

This should be a new idea for job seekers, especially the desperate ones in need of employment!

YouTube adds auto-captioning for videos


YouTube has added auto-captioning for videos and other enhancements for people with disabilities, the company revealed at a recent conference session in Berkley, CA, held with folks from YouTube, Google, and California School for the Deaf. The new feature makes it easier to caption your videos on YouTube, however, you cannot caption other’s videos (for obvious reasons).

Apple Sues HTC for Patent Infringement

Apple is on the offensive again and now they are putting the heat on HTC. This time, they are claiming that HTC has infringed 20 patents related to the iPhone’s interface which seems to be pointing towards multi-touch technology. The suit was filed by Apple with the ITC and in the U.S. District Court in Delaware.

Nexus One coming to Verizon?

According to new rumors at Neowin, Google’s Nexus One smartphone might be coming to Verizon’s network on March 23.

According to the source, which is an annonymous source from within Google, the phone passed FCC inspection for use on Verizon’s CDMA network, and the news will be unveiled at the CTIA Wireless convention in Las Vegas.
