Why? Well actually you don’t have to, but you do need to create posts that other people want to bookmark. Why should it matter to you if readers bookmark your content?  Firstly, if they are bookmarking and using a social bookmarking site like delicious the exposure for your blog will be extremely valuable.

Secondly if they are bookmarking the content they obviously found it useful and something that they want for future reference. If that is the case then they are quite likely to pass on your content to others - again a very valuable way to obtain new readers.

So how to achieve this:

Write longer pieces - this helps with readers that just scan your posts, if you write a longer piece they are likely to bookmark it to read it later.

Provide thought provoking content - challenge your readers to think about what you are writing.

Create a recommendation list - whether it is books on your topic, other websites or any other type of resource a list of must haves is always going to be useful and popular.

You can use these on their own or combine them into a post, whichever you choose to do you will be providing your readers with content that they will want to keep.
