Blogging Awards
Bloggers live and die by their readership. One of the ways in which blogs can draw more readership is by gaining recognition from the blogging community at large. To that end taking part in blogging awards can be very beneficial to your blog.
Now, it has to be said that some of the awards are little more than popularity contests that smack surprisingly of High School. Some people avoid these altogether and some embrace them for what they are. After all part of being a popular blogger is, well, being popular. Blogs, as a part of social media, and therefore bloggers as social media practioners can use their influence to help them gain nominations, votes and awards.
Its not too hard to find who is hosting an award. Most recently on Twitter the Shorty Awards were launched, aimed at Twitter users, it had many categories, one of which was blogging. An active user on Twitter would be able to ask their followers for nominations and so help publicize their blog.
Not all awards are quite so “High School” based, and will take a lot more work to get you recognized. At the end of the day all you are likely to receive from the award itself is a badge for your blog, but if that leads to a few hundred more readers each day it might just be worth the effort.
